About World Literature Trends

What Is This Site?

World Literature Trends is a data-driven guide to classic literature. We combine popularity data, reading difficulty scores, and book summaries to help you discover your next great read from the world's most celebrated public domain works.

All featured books are freely available through Project Gutenberg, making classic literature accessible to everyone.

How We Rank Books

Books are ranked by Wikipedia pageviews over the last 90 days. This reflects real-world interest and cultural relevance — which classics people are actively reading about right now. Rankings are updated daily.

Reading Difficulty Levels

Each book is assigned a difficulty level based on the Flesch Reading Ease score, calculated from the actual full text. This measures sentence length and syllable complexity to estimate how easy a text is to read.

Level Flesch Score Description
Beginner 90–100 Very easy to read. Short sentences, simple words.
Elementary 70–89 Easy to read. Conversational style.
Intermediate 50–69 Fairly easy to read. Standard prose.
Upper Intermediate 30–49 Somewhat difficult. Longer sentences, richer vocabulary.
Advanced 0–29 Difficult to read. Complex prose and vocabulary.
